Growing Traits
The grape varieties used in Irouléguy Blanc are well-suited to the region's terroir, which includes steep, terraced vineyards with diverse soil types such as limestone, clay, and sandstone. The climate exhibits both maritime and continental influences, with temperate summers and moderate annual rainfall, allowing the grapes to ripen fully while retaining refreshing acidity.
Medium-bodied with a dense texture, offering a balance between fruitiness and minerality. Typically dry, emphasizing its crisp and refreshing character. Negligible tannins, as it is a white wine, resulting in a smooth and clean finish. High acidity, contributing to its freshness and enhancing its aging potential. Moderate alcohol content, generally ranging between 12% and 13.5%, providing a balanced and approachable character.
Irouléguy Blanc wines are characterized by their dense texture and typical floral and citrus aromas. On the palate, they are lively, clean, and fresh, with flavors of stone fruit and a distinct minerality. The high acidity provides a crisp finish, and the wines can develop additional complexity with age, including honeyed notes.
Irouléguy Blanc's high acidity and fresh fruit flavors make it a versatile companion for various dishes. It pairs well with seafood, such as grilled fish or shellfish, and complements light salads and appetizers. The wine's crispness also makes it suitable for pairing with spicy Asian cuisine, as it can balance the heat and enhance the overall dining experience. Additionally, it can be enjoyed as an aperitif or paired with goat cheese and charcuterie.
