Origin: Pully, Vaud, Switzerland
History: Diolinoir is a red grape variety developed in 1970 by André Jaquinet at the Caudoz research center in Pully, Switzerland. It is a cross between Pinot Noir and Rouge de Diolly (also known as Robin Noir), created to produce wines with intense color and structure, suitable for improving Swiss red blends. Over time, it has gained recognition as a varietal wine, particularly in the Valais region.
Appearance: Small, spherical berries with blue-black skin, forming medium-sized, elongated, and tight clusters.
Growing Traits: Diolinoir is a vigorous and fruitful vine with good resistance to rot. It ripens around the same time as Pinot Noir and Gamay, making it suitable for alpine climates. To express its full potential, it requires careful yield management and is ideally harvested at full maturity.
