Description Icon Zeta Description

Origin: Hungary
History: Zéta is a Hungarian white wine grape variety resulting from a cross between Furmint and Bouvier, created in 1951 by Dr. Ferenc Király. Initially named Oremus, it was renamed Zéta in 1999 to avoid confusion with a vineyard of the same name. Zéta is primarily used in the production of Tokaji wines, known for their high sugar concentrations and susceptibility to botrytis, which contributes to the unique character of Tokaji Aszú wines.
Appearance: Medium-sized, cylindrical clusters with small, round berries that are prone to shriveling.
Growing Traits: Zéta is a mid-ripening variety with a particular aptitude for high sugar concentrations and early ripening. It is susceptible to botrytis, which was a key characteristic sought by breeders when crossing Furmint and Bouvier. The grape thrives on loess and erubase soils, contributing to its rich, oily, and fleshy texture in wines.
