About Vespaiola

Origin
Italy
History
Vespaiola is a white Italian wine grape variety planted primarily in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy, particularly around the town of Breganze. The name 'Vespaiola' derives from 'Vespa,' referring to wasps that are attracted to the sugary aromas of the grapes. The grape is known for its high sugar levels, making it ideal for producing sweet wines like Torcolato. Vespaiola is also an important component in the Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) white wine of Breganze produced in the province of Vicenza.
Appearance
Small to medium-sized, greenish-yellow berries forming compact clusters.
Growing Traits
Vespaiola is a vigorous vine that produces small bunches of tiny oval berries with a high skin-to-juice ratio. The grape ripens late and is well-suited to warm, dry climates. It is often grown on slopes facing the sea to benefit from additional reflected light, which enhances grape quality.
