Everything About Elbling Grape

"EL-bling"
Elbling Description
Origin: Rhine Valley, Germany
History: Elbling is an ancient white grape variety with a history dating back to Roman times. It was once Germany's most cultivated variety until the early 20th century but has since declined in prominence. Today, it is primarily grown in the upstream parts of the Mosel region in Germany and in Luxembourg, where the river is called Moselle.
Appearance: Small to medium-sized, greenish-yellow berries forming compact clusters.
Growing Traits: Elbling is an early-ripening, very prolific producer that makes light, piquant wines often used for sparkling wine, thanks to their high acidity. It thrives in cooler climates and is typically planted in sites where Riesling struggles to ripen.
